The Story So Far
Carlos Rodriguez Torre aka The Variable Man is a Spanish-born electronic artist who’s spent over a decade in Berlin's underground. His approach is slow and deliberate, shaped by long nights of experimenting, listening, and letting the music unfold without pressure. With a sound that fuses ambient textures, intricate rhythms, and analog grit, his performances feel more like emotional journeys than DJ sets. Whether through vinyl or live acts, The Variable Man crafts sets with intention,: immersive, reflective, and raw. Now, with confidence built from years of personal evolution, he’s stepping into the spotlight. Not for fame, but to connect with sound, space, and the people in it.

Booth Layout:

Please avoid any other configuration.
Mixer must be centered between the two turntables and the monitors
Turntables:
- 2x Technics SL-1210 MK2 (or newer), properly calibrated
- MUST be placed on an isolated and stable surface or on isolation platforms (no wobbling tables)
- Ortofon Concorde MKII DJ / Club / 5E compatible

Booth Monitors:
- 2x high-quality booth monitors placed on the sides, not on the same table as the turntables (to prevent low-frequency feedback)
Recording:
- Stereo output from the mixer to 2x 1/4" jacks (L + R) for live set recording (can be aux or booth out)
Setup / Soundcheck:
- Minimum 1 hour, ideally 2 hours before performance
- Access to booth for gear check, cartridge setup, and level test
Backstage / Booth:
- 2x Bottles of still water (500ml)
- 2x Bottles of sparkling water (500ml)
- Selection of vegan energy bars
- Unsweetened, unsalted dried fruits
- Fresh seasonal fruits (apple, banana, etc.)
